Annual Labor Day Weekend Festival!
Labor Day Weekend has become a full-fledged three-day festival in Rowlesburg. There is something exciting happening on Saturday, Sunday and Monday--carnival rides, fireman's parade, bike racing, tours to Cannon Hill, Civil War exhibits, WWII exhibits, Depot Exhibits, huge model train show, antique car show, and the famous Ox Roast.

On Saturday, the whole town each year invites railroadfans and all Mountain Sub railroaders and their families and friends, and all of the descendents of railroaders now gone, to an old fashioned reunion at the B&O Depot Museum, the Ambulance Service Function Hall and the Rowlesburg Park. Railroaders from Cumberland to Grafton come to enjoy the exhibits, chicken dinner in the Park and rides to the top of Cannon Hill. On Sunday, bicycle clubs and paddling clubs are invited to an outdoor mountain and river festival in Rowlesburg starting at 8:00 A.M. in the Park. The day starts off with a hearty breakfast of eggs, sausage gravy on biscuits and lots of coffee. The Country Roads Cyclist Club of Harrison County lays out the road tours.

The Big Labor Day Weekend Celebration is topped off each year on Monday with the famous Ox Roast, country music and fireworks. The roast beef is pit-cooked all night in the Park on a fire of local hardwoods. Secret seasonings are added from a recipe said to be handed down for 40 plus years from a former Rowlesburg railroad chef, Rusty Ashburn. The roast beef is served with complete dinners or on sandwiches. For entertainment, the Park offers live country music all day. Monday is the traditional antique and classic car show and things end with a bang--the BIG fireworks show against the backdrop of Cannon Hill.

Folks, young and old, start gathering at the Railroad Depot Museum for the kickoff of Labor Day Weekend. Ladies who provide a helping hand to the elderly enjoy the Saturday Parade.
